Jake Bourne Work Experience

At Martin’s we always do our best to provide support and opportunities to school leavers and students, and this summer was no exception. Jake has an interest in becoming a Farrier having grown up around horses, however his schooling had given him little chance to look into such a career, and his first chance to see something of metalworking skills involved was spending two weeks with us. In the interests of providing a well rounded view of working life, we like our students to see the business process from front to back, so he spent time with the Sales team, Planning team and Quality team before getting to see the practices used in the Toolroom. Jake completed his fortnight with us by designing a plaque in 3D on Solidworks, and with the help of Shaun Gunn our Tooling Manager, it was manufactured on our 5 Axis machining centre overnight, in time for a presentation on his last day with us. We wish Jake well for the future, and he now has a much better appreciation of business and manufacturing, while he decides on his future career. Author: Adam Hooper Date: 1 Aug 2011
